Influenced by existential philosophy and buddhist traditions of mindfulness, Stacia explores the relationship between repetition, desire and impermanence in our everyday lives. Everywhere she looks—television, pop music, video games, advertising, our hobbies, our jobs—she finds evidence of a shared human condition: the instinctual urge to hold onto pleasure and push away pain. Her hand-stitched embroideries of television characters freeze fictional moments of heightened emotional pain, offering opportunities to contemplate our own pain instead of trying to escape it. Her temporary, site-responsive collages made from repeated images cut from
glossy magazines are pinned directly to the wall, highlighting the ephemeral nature of desire and the tactics we use to satisfy it.
